ABOUT SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY Shepherd University, a West Virginia public liberal arts university, is a diverse community of learners and a gateway to the world of opportunities and ideas. SCENIC AND HISTORIC LOCATION SCENIC AND HISTORIC LOCATIONShepherd University is situated in the Shenandoah Valley, on the banks of the Potomac River, in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The oldest town in the state, Shepherdstown is a quaint university community, with the town and campus combining to offer a unique learning-living environment. Located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Shepherdstown is within 20 miles of nearby Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It is only 65 miles from the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Maryland.

SURROUNDING AREA Situated along the Potomac River in the beautiful lower Shenandoah Valley, Shepherdstown is the oldest town in West Virginia.

You can experience the history and ambience of a town that pre-dates the Revolutionary War while, at the same time, enjoying our wonderful restaurants and many unique shops.

Nearby to Shepherdstown you can visit Civil War sites at Harpers Ferry or Antietam, you can hike or bike the C&O Canal path and you can enjoy rafting, tubing or kayaking on the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.

The campus residence halls are suites with two bedrooms in each suite. They have interior doors that open to a living room area and full bathroom.

If you signed up for a single, you will have a private room. If you signed up for double, you and your roommate will share a room. The suites are air-conditioned.

Sheets are provided in our all-inclusive price that you will get with check-in. You must bring your pillow and blankie.

A typical room provides:

  • Two single beds with extra-long matresses 
  • Two individual desk and chair
  • Two five drawer chest
  • Two closets 
  • Wal mounted bulletin board
  • Blinds
  • Lighting
  • Telephone & cable
  • Carpeted floors
  • Air Conditioning 

Some items that you might consider bringing are:

  • Radio alarm clock
  • Plug strips
  • Flashlight
